Heat It Up Once Again

Yeah, I know. Been missing for some months now and sorry about that, just haven't been able to do some baking like I would like. Hopefully I will get to do somethings soon, especially for my son's birthday that is coming up in less than a week. He will be two, I'm happy and sad at the same time. Hoping to find something to bake even if it's a small cake for him or make some cupcakes to decorate. Anyway, during the summer I want to try some new things out of the Kraft Foods magazine that I received in the mail a few days ago. They have some yummy desserts and other things such as the frosty orange creme dessert or the keylime cheesecake or the peanut butter and fudge swirl pie. I'm already wanting to try these out already Can't wait to get back into the kitchen and bake again.

Hannah Montana cake

Last week I made 3 cakes for girls that were turning 6. This one was Hannah Montana themed. The bottom layer is a star with zebra print. The top layer is round with black fondant stars. The girl's name is across the front with a country and rock guitar made of fondant on either side. The cake is topped with the Hannah Montana logo and six stars. I really liked how the logo turned out. I used a small round decorating tip to imprint on the wording.

Princess Castle Cake

This cake was inspired by one found on the Freed's Bakery site. I was having one of those nights when nothing went right. The flowers I had made previously were way too big and the vines looked bad, and I couldn't get the towers to stay. I was a rough night, but I got through it and the cake turned out cute. The mom had bought little princess figurines and was going to put them around the cake.

Camp Rock Cake

Well, my Camryn turned 6 and due to her undying love for Nick Jonas, she wanted to have a Camp Rock Birthday Party. It was fun. We set up the tent in the backyard and did crafts, danced, roasted hot dogs. told funny ghost stories and of course, had cake. I used an X-acto knife to cut out the logo and tried to make the girl singing look like Camryn - they are even wearing the same outfit. I thought the fire turned out pretty cool. I just barely kneed together yellow, red, and orange fondant to make it.

Cowboy Cake

A customer requested a cowboy themed cake, and I came up with the BRILLIANT idea to make the cake look like hay bales with a cowboy on top. I piped hay for FOREVER, but it turned out cute.

Hula Cake

My daughter wanted to make a Hawaiian themed cake for her teacher's birthday. She did most of the fondant work, except the hula girl. The hula girl's skirt is cake. Alexis did a great job!

Graduation Cake

I made this cake for a woman who was graduating from a Respiratory Therapy program. It just a little 6 inch cake, but I liked how the little stethoscope turned out. The client requested coconut on it, which turned out to be a cute topping and border.

Star Wars and Dolphins

A sister and brother were having a joint party, but their mom wanted them to have separate cakes. The girl was turning 7 and liked dolphins and the boy was turning 5 and is really into Star Wars. I made these two smaller cakes for them. One was chocolate and one was white cake.
