Play Ball

This cake was for a boy turning 5 this weekend. The white cake ball is covered in fondant, with a fondant figure of a ball player sitting on top. The field below is chocolate cake, covered with buttercream grass. I I thought the little plates on the field were a cute finishing touch.

Mad Hatter

I decorated this chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate buttercream covered in marshmallow fondant. I carved it to look like the Mad Hatter's hat. There is even a tag stuck in the hat brim with 10/6 on it (appearantly that was the price of the hat). On top were fondant figures of the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit.

Kiss Attack the Mommy!!

Last night Kami and the kids stayed for dinner and watched a little TV. Carlee decided to snuggle with her mommy and then Kami gave her a little kiss. Carlee decided to keep kissing! Then Collin had to join in and pretty soon they were both attacking Kami with kisses and just being little silly teasers!! It was fun to see then all loving each other but I think Kami got the worst of it!!! They are all so precious!

Why I Love Where I Live!!

Being from the big city of Mesa, AZ, I never thought I coud live in an area with no shopping or places to go and do things. I was sure that I would be bored out of my mind! We have lived in the Lost River area for a little over 20 years now and I wouldn't trade it for anything!!

Here are some of the things I love about being here:

Baby Cake

My friend, Sherry asked me for a baby cake. I thought it turned out so cute! It's a chocolate cake with buttercream icing. The stars, moon, and baby are all fondant. My favorite part is the star hanging from the moon. I used fishing line. It's little details that can make a cake special.

My Daughter Becomes a Cake Decorator

My 9 year old, Alexis, wanted to make a cake for her friend. Makenna was throwing a party for her Webkins (stuffed animals that have games on the internet you can play). They made the cake to look like one of the games, Wheel of Wow. I helped, but the kids did most of the work. They did a great job. Here is a picture of my kids - Alexis, Camryn, and Seth with two of the Davis kids - Olivia and Josh.

Valentine's Week 2008

Valentine's Day this year was so much fun!! We started the week out making sugar cookies to send to my son, Ryan. He was born on the 14th and has always been my sweetheart! For his birthday, Christmas, whatever...he always asks for my sugar cookies. Collin and I made some for him earlier in the week:

Collin's contribution:

Carlee just kept eating them!!!

Then it was Tina's turn to do preschool. I helped with the kids a little, but she had everything under control! She taught them about the letter "V". We read stories that contained the letter V. Tina made a volcano that really erupted. The kids did some worksheets about the letter V. They made cute little mailboxes to put their Valentine's in and decorated cookies.

These grandchildren are very priviledged. They woke up to balloons, candy, a special breakfast of pink eggs, heart-shaped french toast, strawberries and ham, and pink milk! Kami and Eric then went on to Idaho Falls for Kami's doctor appointment. The kids came to my house for the day and I took them back to their house when Joe left for work. I made them a dinner of heart-shaped hamburgers, fruit salad and carrots with ranch dip. Kami and Eric soon were home and showed us some of the things that they had bought. Kami bought a beatufil, very shiny pair of red shoes. She has been wanting some for a long time now. Carlee of course wanted them right away and hugged and had to try them on. Kami most likely will have to hide these shoes from both of the kids!!!

Chinese New Year

The Boy Scouts in my ward are having a Chinese New Year themed Blue & Gold Banquet. They asked me to do the cake. I put fondant ribbon around each layer with a geometric design and piped a dragon kinda swirled around the front of the cake. I added a diamond shaped on the top and piped "Boy Scout" in Chinese - not that I know Chinese, I found it on the internet.

Super Why

Super Why is a PBS Kids show. It is actually pretty cute and educational. When a customaer asked for a Super Why cake, I thought I'd sculpt the characters out of rolled fondant. They came out pretty cute. They are sitting on a book of Fairy Tales. The vanilla cake is frosted in green buttercream with white dots that have question marks on them, like the bookclub house doors on the show.

21st Birthday

A customer sent me a picture and wanted this cake for her son's 21st birthday. The dice are vanilla cake with a chocolate cream filling and are covered in fondant. The base of the cake is chocolate with an Oreo filling, then frosted with buttercream and decorated. She brought me cards, chips, and dice to finish the cake off.

Baptism Cake

Rebecca, a girl in my ward, got baptized Saturday, Her mom told me she likes blue, so I modified a cake I'd done in the past to create this cake. It is girly and sweet. Congratulations, Rebecca!

Mardi Gras

My friend had a Mardi Gras party last weekend and asked me to make a cake for it. Her husband was born in New Orleans around Mardi Gras time, so they often have a themed party. There was great food, games, and we ended the evening with a slice of this cake.
